General Information:

The Probate department is responsible for filing and maintaining records on probate actions, as well as receiving and disbursing money as ordered by the court. Types of cases include: guardianships and conservatorships, estates, care and treatment for mentally ill persons or alcoholics, and adoptions. Care and treatment cases, as well as adoptions, are confidential records.

The probate clerks process approximately 2,700 cases each year. They file new cases, enter information on the computer, and issue pleadings, which involves a substantial amount of counter work and data entry.
