Judge Sean Hatfield is currently the Division 25 Judge of the 18th Judicial District Court. He was appointed in 2019 by Governor Jeff Colyer.

Judge Hatfield graduated from the University of Kansas with a bachelor’s degree in political science and earned his law degree from Valparaiso University in Indiana.

During law school, Judge Hatfield competed on the VU Moot Court team and in the summer of 2008 clerked for the United States Senate Committee on the Judiciary.

Prior to his appointment to the bench, Judge Hatfield was in private practice from 2010 to 2017 with Maughan Law Group where he had a wide-ranging practice in the areas of criminal, civil, probate and juvenile law.  He also engaged in an extensive appellate litigation practice representing clients in numerous cases before the Kansas Court of Appeals and the Kansas Supreme Court.  For many years, he also served as the chief prosecutor for the city of Maize.

In 2017, Judge Hatfield left private practice to serve as an Assistant Kansas Attorney General assigned to the United States Attorney’s Office for the District of Kansas.  At the U.S. Attorney’s Office, he was assigned to the Money Laundering and Asset Recovery section litigating both civil and criminal cases on behalf of the United States as a Special Assistant U.S. Attorney.

Judge Hatfield and his wife Maggie live in Wichita with their beloved Dandie Dinmont Terrier, Watson.
