This department's responsibility is to file and maintain records on probate actions; receipt and disburse money as ordered by the court.
Types of cases include guardianships and conservatorships, estates, care and treatment (of mentally ill persons or alcoholics), and adoptions. Care and treatment and adoptions are confidential records.
The Probate clerks process approximately 2100 cases each year. The probate clerks file new cases, enter information on computer and issue pleadings. This involves a great deal of counter work and data entry.
