The Probate Department is located on the 9th floor and has a staff of 7 clerks.
This department's responsibility is to file and maintain records on probate actions and receipt and disburse money as ordered by the court.
Types of cases include guardianships and conservatorships, marriage licenses, estates, care and treatment (of mentally ill persons or alcoholics), and adoptions. Care and treatment and adoptions are confidential records.
The Probate clerks process approximately 2100 cases each year and an additional 3700 marriage licenses are issued.
The probate clerks file new cases, enter information on computer and issue pleadings. This involves a great deal of counter work and data entry.
